Knee Joint Injections

What Is A Knee Joint Injection?
Knee pain and loss of range of motion can be debilitating and adversely affect our daily lives. It can be due to a fracture, tear in cartilage or ligaments, generalized inflammation, and arthritis. A knee injection is the introduction of medication into the joint directly to treat the pain arising out of various causes. There are different kinds of knee injections based on the condition being treated. Most commonly, our providers use steroid injections to reduce pain & inflammation, and sometimes also as a diagnostic tool to determine the root cause of pain. Depending on the condition, providers may also use other agents like hyaluronic acid to lubricate the joint.
Is this the right treatment for me?
If a patient has pain which interferes with the activities of daily living such as walking and prolonged standing, or pain/stiffness interrupting sleep. The clinical diagnosis is supported by radiologic evidence of osteoarthritis of the knee such as joint space narrowing, subchondral sclerosis, osteophytes and subchondral cysts. If appropriate, other diagnoses have been diagnostically excluded and if the patient has failed other conservative treatments and medication pain control.
